Tires Nokia or Kleber

Solterra owner here, living at 6k feet in the Sierra/Tahoe area..Installed WRg5s a month ago and it's been icy, near the freezing point on several occasions now. Maybe its the Solterra traction control, maybe its the tires...maybe its the combination of both, but I've been testing in black and glazed ice on the roundabouts and the tight icy corners and they won't. break. loose!

They handle rain and snow pretty well... The worst was the ice storm down in Vancouver back in February. They did amazingly well for not being true snow tires and without studs

If you’re looking for a budget friendly option Nokian sells an all weather time you can drive year round the WRG4 which from my experience is better than the budget winter tires in terms of grip. Had them on my car for almost 5 years now and they’re still great

I would recommend the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 if you could get them.

I just put the studded Hakka 10 on my wife’s new Durango and will never go back. I have the R5 on my car and it’s no comparison to the studded 10s.

I have no problem recommending Kleber, especially when it is significantly cheaper in some sizes.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta's are the best of the best. You can get both studded and non-studded. You likely don't need the studs, but they certainly help on early morning descents down i70 into Silverthorne.

Long term update for anyone considering the Nokian One. Had them installed in 2022, put 40,000km on the vehicle since, 10k of that was probably on my winter tires. I just passed the 60% indicator. I figure they will last 60,000km.

You can take a bigger hit in tires alone. For instance, on my stock ContiProContacts, I average 27 mpg with 235/50r18 tires. Same size but with Nokian Z-line A/S, a tire that grips the road much better wet and dry, I'm lucky to hit 25 mpg, usually more like 22 mpg.

Nokian Outposts: 2,390 mi. 9.8% worse efficiency. Would not recommend Nokians: Probably great offroad. Nothing short of scary on road. These tires are totally overwhelmed with the weight and power combo of the Rivian quad platform.
