Tires NITTO or BFGoodrich

NITTO Tires

I go camping often, so she’s good in the mud. I use Nitto Grappler tires and they’re fantastic.

Pros: fantastic, good in mud

BFGoodrich Tires

I have been really happy with my BFG HD Terrains. Picked them up from eBay as a set of takeoffs in practically new condition. Great on and off road.

Pros: really happy, great on road, great off-road

I have 70k on them and probably another 5k to go but I do have 5 tires total in rotation. The K02s are pretty quiet on road and perform well enough when offroading in the Sierras. Almost zero time in snow though.

Pros: quiet on road, perform well off-road, good tread life
Mileage: 70000 km

Bfg trail Terrains. I’ve got them on my Explorer timberline when I replaced the duelers that came on it. They are great for the off-roading I do down forest service roads/etc and in snow. They are also way quieter than the duelers.

Pros: great for off-roading, great in snow, way quieter than stock

NITTO Tires

I have had the ridge grapplers on my Ram for 3 years. My overall experience with them was okay. They look great, but snow/rain traction was poor.

Pros: look great
Cons: poor snow/rain traction

BFGoodrich Tires

I have load range E tires (BFG KO3) on Rock Warrior 17" forged wheels, so I've made that tradeoff too, but am clear-eyed about consequences. Also, loss in MPG and acceleration due to having to spin more weight on each wheel. And incorrect speedometer / odometer readings. And loss in tow capacity (due to giving away torque via taller tires, which effectively decreases gear ratios).

Cons: loss in MPG, reduced acceleration, incorrect speedometer, reduced tow capacity

Went to a Nitto Recon Grappler in 35x11.5. Very noticeable decrease in ride quality after the swap that didn't make the wifey super happy. 5k miles later (now closer to 20k) it became the new normal. That's the tradeoff going with a big 10 ply sidewall tire.

Cons: decreased ride quality
Mileage: 20000 km
