Tires MICHELIN or BRIDGESTONE

BRIDGESTONE Tires

I have a set of 265/30/R18 Bridgestone RE71Rs I autocross them and daily drove them for a while. But pricey but worth it for performance. I've heard people refer to these as one step down from slicks

Pros: worth it for performance
Cons: pricey

I got 35K miles on my 2012 OEMs GYs and bgt michelin Lattitudes as replacements that had 30K+ miles when I traded in for emissions scandal and they still had plenty of thread. They are not bad considering the weight of the car.

Pros: plenty of thread
Cons: not bad
Mileage: 35000 km

I run 205/50/R17 Michelin X-Ice XI3s on OEM Silex rims. It has been worth every damn penny in snowy and icy conditions. The extra impact absorption on late winter frost heaves and potholes is icing on the cake.

Pros: worth every penny, impact absorption

Only downside I can see is that now I can't give it the business merging in 2nd gear, as it will just blow through the tires (and I've already upgraded them to a Michelin Pilot Sport since I felt the factory Hankook rode very rough).

Pros: upgraded to Michelin Pilot Sport
Cons: factory Hankook rode rough

I agree, very quiet compared to my Bridgestone Ecopia 422 plus H, better traction wet and dry...better handling too. Expansion joint crossings are quieter than my Bridgestones as well.

Pros: better traction, better handling
Cons: visually busy sidewall

MICHELIN Tires

I prefer the x-ice over the blizacks. I found they last longer and maintain their grip as they wear better. But I must admit I am partial to Michelin in general.

Pros: last longer, maintain grip

I was unfortunate to receive my GTI with a set of the RE97AS's. Rough surfaces are the worst - makes everything in the car rattle or vibrate. Dry grip is quite poor (as others have mentioned), bad breakaway even at low throttle inputs. At cruising speeds on newer highways (rubberized asphalt) everything seems fine.

Pros: fine on newer highways
Cons: poor dry grip
Vehicle: Volkswagen
