Tires DUNLOP or Vredestein
Mine have 30k miles on em and I live in Cali and they havent given me any trouble. I drove to Utah last year as well for a camping trip, they held up good in the heavy rain and dirt. I plan on swapping to an all around better tire though next year
Great in rain, very good in moderate snow on my Alltrack.
I swapped my Conti original equip. for these and will buy them again for sure. Quiet and good in moderate amount of snow. Check TireRack for reviews. Nothing will be as good as a dedicated snow tire and I'm sure you know that. Good luck.
I replaced the Bridgestone that came on my Golf SEL wagon 225/40R18 Vredestein's Quatrac Pro. The handling is equal to the Bridgestone's and the ride and nose level is greatly improved. I haven't used in the snow but they are better than the Bridgestones in the rain. Plus they cheaper than many of the other tires.
Dunlop Q3+ Tons of grip, and good milage for the performance. Just be careful in the cold.
Dunlop Roadsmart 3 12k miles.
Bought a separate set of winter wheels, sensors, and tires (Vredestein Wintrac Pro) from Tire Rack. Otherwise just regular maintenance. Driven over 65k miles so far, almost all of it chasing snow throughout New England.
I got about 22,000 miles out of them. I never had any problems with grip, but they did wear out fast.
I put a Dunlop slick rear on recently and had a ton of trouble with it. It needs a ton of heat in order to grip but I never developed any trust in it and it has the worst traction of any tire I've used.
My Dunlops were noisy and slippery (when wet) when they were brand new and then got obnoxiously loud after 20k miles, i finally got rid of them around 25k miles and switched to Continentals.
