Tires Continental or Firestone

Continental Tires

I have this wheelset on my Trek Emonda ALR 5. Running tubeless with Continental GP 5000 TL tires.

Although tubeless, I always carry a spare tube, a couple tire levers, CO2, and a patch kit w/ boot. Be prepared.

Sealant works really well on small punctures to point I’ve had a few that I didn’t even realize until after I got home and saw the small bit of sealant plugging up the hole. Only time I had an issue was when I ran over a bunch of broken glass: a small piece got wedged in front tire and prevented sealant from fully plugging the hole. Still, I was able to ride home safely with about 30psi remaining in the tire. Once I got back, I pulled the glass piece and sealant filled the gap. I did top off the sealant inside. No issues since.

Pros: sealant works well
Cons: loses air pressure faster

Continental Tires

Pirelli's quality is second to none as well. Hankooks are also great, used them for tracking a 2007 BMW 335I and those babies were great. I really like Continentals too...the Conact 2 Summer tire was best rubber I ever owned....though not in winter

Pros: best rubber ever
Cons: not good in winter

Firestone Tires

I save some cash and can get in sooner with a local Firestone. They do good work and have never let me down.

Pros: good work, never let down

Firestone Tires

For summer tires I'd go with Michelin pilot sport 4s if you have cash to burn or Firehawk indy 500s if you are looking for a good price/performance balance.

Pros: good price/performance balance

Honestly for the price, I prefer Continentals. Similar ride quality to Goodyear but at a lower cost.

Pros: similar ride quality
Cons: wore pretty quickly
