General Artic Altimax have been my go to for years now quite successfully, great bang for the buck. Just put a set on my 08 B6 3.6 VR6 4Motion wagon and I'm ready for anything.
If you want a Decent tire I would suggest the general tires 365AW grand touring tire they are 3 peak severe snow service rated touring tire with a 540 treadwear so they're not a dedicated snow tire but will do the exact same and you'll also be able to use them year round without them being too soft.
I had the ATR Sport 2 on my Mazda 6 and they had excellent grip for an inexpensive tire. Good in the rain.
I like General tires for the most part and dislike Goodyear.
I've run about 6 sets of General Grabber ATX - good tires
I just did the same switch about 2 weeks ago now. I agree with wet performance, they are fantastic. My two biggest differences I've noticed are the Gmax have a tendency to feel a bit floaty on very specific pavement patterns at highway speed.
I got my RX-7 a set of General Altimax RT43. For the past few thousand miles, no complaints.
I had pilot sports and switched to the gmax after having blow out after blow out no issue since making the switch. the general tires imo are far sturdier and have way better wet weather performance.
I have changed my tires from Michelin Pilot Sport 3's to General G Max AS-05.
I recently took my car on an aggressive mountain pass in 70 degree weather and here's my findings.
1)Driving at 80-90mph on straight highway cruising the General G Max create more wind noise than the Pilot Sports.
They lasted 18,000 miles on my 2015 Mazda 6 before I was down to the wires. I mean for the price you get a ..... tire. They are not horrible tires that will be unsafe or that will handle horribly, but they are budget tires that won’t last long and that are loud specially with age.
