I went this route last winter. Got rid of the awful factory suspension and went with GTWORX set up, it includes the Bilstein struts and RaceComp springs. The car is a lot more planted than before. I would say it's the best upgrade you can do, coming from stock, so well worth the $$

Pros: car more planted
Cons: awful factory suspension
Vehicle: Subaru

KYB Strut assembly

I recently installed KYB struts front/rear on my 2014 (108k miles). Seems to be the best brand for quality & price, plus it’s likely your OEM struts are KYB.

Pros: best quality, good price
Mileage: 108000 km

B8's are great. I run them on my MK7. But they need to be paired with more aggressive springs as the B8's are a shorter & stiffer strut. So softer springs will often bottom them out.

Like H&R Sports. Those are a popular combo with the B8 strut.

Yes, you'll notice a difference. As the car will have proper damping. Ride won't be as harsh, bumps won't be bouncy, cornering will be more definitive & sharp.

Pros: proper damping, sharp cornering
Cons: need aggressive springs

Bilstein B4/B6 struts are designed for stock springs and really drive the performance upmarket. Last, buy new stock endlinks and get a 22mm solid rear sway bar. You can do all that for <$2K and the car will drive like a 50-60K performance car until 200K miles with no notable maintenance increases.

Pros: drive the performance upmarket
Vehicle: Volkswagen

KYB Strut assembly

I just installed KYB Strut-Plus on a B16 Sentra. None of that stacked bellow/bumper garbage that you get with Monroe. The KYB mount threads (8mm) look like shit compared to OE. The included screws do not appear to be strengthened. I would never use the Nissan torque value of 21 ft/lb with an aftermarket job. I chose 15 which still felt risky.

Pros: no stacked bellow/bumper
Cons: poor mount threads, weak screws
Vehicle: Nissan Sentra

Bilstein Strut assembly

I ordered Bilstein b4 non sport and had a similar result once installed. It still seems my car was non the sport package but that could be the problem. I had found other threads regarding this issue with B4s and some gas struts. They never really settled.

Cons: car sat high, never settled
Vehicle: BMW

Bilstein Strut assembly

I regret putting B6’s on my 530i, the OE sport suspension rode much nicer and handled just as well.

I also had to warranty one of the front struts after a year due to a clunking noise, apparently it’s a very common issue caused by the inverted design.

Pros: none
Cons: clunking noise, common issue
Vehicle: BMW
