Spark plug Bosch or BERU

Bosch Spark plug

I have a shelf of new parts for a bunch of my VW’s. All the cap and rotor parts I can find are the same for either car. They’re brand new. The plugs are brand new as well. Gapped by the Bentley. The plugs were “black” from trying to fire but not.

Pros: new parts, gapped correctly
Cons: plugs were black
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Bosch Spark plug

I purchased from a local auto parts store for my 07 E550 and SO's 05 E55 - stealership quoted around $1k, parts for each with Bosch Iridium plugs was about $125. Installed new plugs at around 70k for the E550 and OE plugs (also Bosch) looked clean and the gaps were spot-on

Pros: plugs looked clean, gaps spot-on
Mileage: 70000 km

I ran Beru RS7 plus which are one step colder when I tuned stage 1 and they didn't last at all. Might have been under 10,000 miles. Recently went with NGK plus that APR reccomends for stage 2 and so far so good. No misfires since.

Pros: no misfires
Cons: didn't last
Mileage: 10000 km

I ended up checking the ignition timing again, put in a new coil, new knock sensors, put in another fresh set of plugs, set the DPR MA to +5, and I failed my emissions test with the same results.

Pros: new coil installed
Cons: failed emissions test
Vehicle: Volkswagen

when I worked for a Chevy dealer we hated Bosch plugs. Chevy's just don't seem to like them, they were often the culprit in misfire diagnosis.

Cons: often culprit in misfire
Vehicle: Chevrolet
