I got my crv at 148k miles, I use Valvoline conventional 5w-20 and a fram extra guard filter. I change my oil around 6k miles.
Have driven from 268,000km's to 388,000km's in the last 5 years. Always full synthetic. I also do my oil once every 6000km , which is early with synthetic, but I want to treat my baby nice. I always get the Fram Full synthetic oil filters - not because they are neccesarily better, but because they have the grip-tape around them, making it easier to remove.
Frame Ultras are actually quite good. The. Orange ran frams are the ones to avoid.
I use OEM or Wix filters only, but my dad has been using fram filters for decades and swears they're fine. Most of his vehicles have over 300k miles on them when he sells them too, so it's not like he dumps them when they're out of warranty.
Yesterday I put 10w-40 in it since it seemed like it could help at least a little. It does have a Fram filter on it now.
last time I did my oil, i made the mistake of using a fram filter. When I went to take it off this week, it wouldn't budge. Only hand tightened when i put it on, wet the seal with oil, and I had no reason to believe there was anything wrong. It took me being at the most awkward angle possible under the car and using every bit of strenght I have for it to finally come off. To this point i have never had to use more than halfish strength to remove one.
dont use fram filters, do some research online and you'll see tons of people that have had issues with them.
I have had a Fram orange can of death implode on a car I owned. Dunno how long it was running with Un-filtered oil but the motor never died. I quit using the El cheapo ones.
Filter out of a 91 Mustang with the 2.3 Lima. Filter was a Fram that was about half as long as it should have been, and it was filled with those tar/sludge globs. They were even coming up on the dipstick.
I've seen more aftermarket (fram, stp, etc) filters that are crushed down towards the center of the filter . They do not seem to flow as well over time.
