Oil filter Fram or Wix
I use the cheapest brand on my daily and no issues after 160k miles ????????
I've used them for 30 years and have nothing to complain about.
The rokis are a great value and fine filter. If you want better flow/filtration look for something with synthetic media and a silicone adbv FE9688, EA15K20-EA, M1-104A, PL14460, royal purple also offers a premium one. I run the FE9688 now, was using XG9688 till they removed mesh. 12$ at Walmart best filter I’ve found so far atleast in theory haha. Wish we had more test data on filters and manufacturers gave out more specs.
Wix is considered to be good, and it’s not expensive and readily available (can walk into local O’Reilly and buy off the shelf). Subaru OEM works if you’re close to a dealership or think to order it; I never remember to order and my local dealer is terrible, so I avoid them.
The orange can of death is only for 3,000 miles!!! Do the ultra synthetic, 20k mile filter. Haven't had a problem with them. I but in bulk as much as possible.
Stick with the wix, rebuilders of rotory engine's suggest that brand alone. Given the necessity of the filtration needed for those engines, that's all I use for k20, 404xxxkm and running strong!
I've seen Fram oil filters cause this, but in your photo, it appears you have a black Mann/Mahle/Bosch/VW filter on it
I just watched an interesting video on Fram and other filters last night. Part of the problem is that Fram doesn't use a normal bypass spring in case the filter gets clogged, and can lead to starving the engine for oil. It's also just a really crappy filter.
I was just doing research on this because my oil pressure warning started going off, someone had done a flow test and the Fram was one of the worst flowing filters they tested
last time I did my oil, i made the mistake of using a fram filter. When I went to take it off this week, it wouldn't budge. Only hand tightened when i put it on, wet the seal with oil, and I had no reason to believe there was anything wrong. It took me being at the most awkward angle possible under the car and using every bit of strenght I have for it to finally come off. To this point i have never had to use more than halfish strength to remove one.
