Ignition coil BERU or OEM Audi
R8 coil packs definitely work better IF you’re tuned.
I recently bought a BERU.
There is one benefit to running R8 coils on a stock TSI. They seem to be a hell of a lot more reliable.
So, I went to my VW/Audi dealers here in Tampa and purchased the stock RS7 spark plugs and RS3 ignition coils. The exhaust smelled slightly worse at startup after the change, but still went away shortly after startup. The idle was smoother but I attribute that to old stock coils and spark plugs.
The only thing I have are the R8 coils, other than that stock everything. The car drives mint
The Audi bolt-down ones are good. I replaced the push-down coils that had a failure about every year or two with the bolt-downs just a week or so befor VW announced the recall. Zero, zero, zero problems ever since.
I personally dislike HUCO brand which it had, I replaced mine with a BERU coil, still going strong since '97.
I had my old OE coilpack off, replaced with the new BERU unit. I had everything put back together, started her up, and she was running okay, but still far from perfect.
Mine is working exactly as it should !!! My cam follower is wearing thin, my DV is busted, my PCV leaks just fine, and i'm starting to think my coils are also going bezerk (but thats fine cause it about that mileage)...
BERU Ignition coils! ALWAYS USIN' GERMAN AUTO PARTS! Old coils out. Here's the problem - that coil on the right's connector broke off! Piece of crap!
