Finished! I got the new fuel pump installed last night (finished right at 10pm) and took it for a short test drive with just a 1/4 tank of gas. It looks like everything is working properly now, no surging, no stalling, and it idles better now than before

Pros: no surging, no stalling
Vehicle: Volkswagen Phaeton

Since the original pump was strong and quiet I decided to reuse it as well and keep the new pump as a spare. I decided to let the perfectly working OE pump run its course.

Pros: strong and quiet, perfectly working
Vehicle: Volkswagen

I had similar problem, and have read of others when fuel is below 1/3. I had just changed sticking fuel pump with new and developed the problem. I thought it might be fuel level calibration, but it took another new pump to solve it for me.

Cons: sticking fuel pump

The car doesn't like to start as quickly as it did with the two pump setup. As the car gets hotter and I do a few restarts while running errands the car is even harder to start. Yesterday resulted in me being stranded in my kid's daycare parking lot for about 5 minutes before it eventually started up again. The pump still fires like it should in the acc position and the car otherwise runs fine which tells me the fuel pump is doing its job.

Pros: runs fine otherwise, pump fires correctly
Cons: slow starting, harder to start when hot, stranded once
Part number: E3210

No, I just spent $2,500 on my 2015 Tiguan, replaced fuel pump, engine harness, n80 valve, crankshaft sensor, cleaned carbon build up....and I had the car back for 2 days and it stalled again...I'm pissed....time to sell and NEVER buy a VW again!

Cons: stalled again after replacement
Vehicle: Volkswagen Tiguan
Mileage: 61000 km

NEVER GET AN AIRTEX PUMP unless you like doing this work, because you will be doing it again if you do.

Cons: poor reliability, short lifespan

I went with a store brand, I think airtex when I replaced mine 2 years ago. I have to replace it again before I start driving it again.

Cons: failed after 2 years
