Engine oil MOTUL or AMSOIL
Always used Motul 8100 xclean 5w30 every 3k miles on the dot.
Amsoil Signature 5w-20 + K&N Gold oil filter (HP1017 for 4th gens, not sure about 5th) is arguably the single best combo if you can afford the oil. Your lobes will thank you.
The first thing I did was change the oil using a wix filter and Amsoil signature series 5w30. The verdict is that the oil has plenty of life left and could have easily run longer.
Anything from Motul Go for full synthetic and according to the grade and spec recommended by your instruction manual.
Amsoil W20 I got a 5.7 it’s been great to me
Amsoil Signature Series 0w40 is an outstanding oil I run it with the SRT filter.
Prefer 10w40 full synthetic only.
this oil is used in a dominar 400 and has been used for roughly 1500km before the highway ride in heavy and light city traffic. my opinion of this oil so far is pros:-
it's very consistent so you know what to expect from it
maintains its smoothness even at higher rpms/ speeds
the engine remains cool on the highways but again this can be attributed to the excellent heat management liquid cooling system of Dominar 400
oil drains can be decently long 4-5k km if the motorcycle Is liquid-cooled( it will still have some life left but hey please change the oil at 5k km)
it's a clean oil, and it has detergents that will keep your engine from having sludge deposits
cons:-
as soon as the engine heats the gear shift experience is a mess, its okay to switch between gears but getting into neutral is hard
higher priced compared to other good brands like total hi perf, but lower than Castrol
also, this is a big one I've heard and read on other motorcycle forums, ester-based oils can be bad for gaskets and seals in the long run.
this oil is kinda bad to use in an air-cooled engine, because this oil evaporates and decreases in level, in an air-cooled engine this will be a mess as this oil from what I can understand and feel was designed to go into a liquid-cooled engine and this does a poor job at transferring and absorbing heat. seen many cases of oil level drop when used in an air/oil cooled motor
most importantly there are a lot of fakes of this oil in the market so to source the genuine one just go to a KTM showroom if your bike uses 10w50
verdict:- good oil for the price, looks fancy with the red colour, does its job well, and will last 5k km easily on a liquid-cooled engine
Get the regular Motul if you feel you need to use the recommended brand, but the Twin is definitely not needed.
im actually running that oil right now... I hate it tbh. 3,100 on the oil and it has allowed excess engine noise since day one, SUPER harsh cold starts, and now its burning through faster than the catrol I ran when I first got the car. a WHOLE QUART over 750 miles. the oil is thinner than piss going in, and it just doesnt stand up to what my engine can put out like Shell Rotella T6 has been doing...
