Engine oil Mobil or PENNZOIL

Mobil Engine oil

Oil changes are cheap enough now that Mobil1 ESP 0w-30/5w-30 which is Approved by VW as 507 spec is around $28 per jug at Walmart. I'd change it more frequently and not chance it on the 2015 TDI engines in USA.

Pros: approved by VW
Cons: engine failures

Honestly, any brand should be okay as long as you change your oil every 5k miles. Personally I run Penz ultra plat. I never burn oil with it and my engine sounds quieter than it did w/ Mobil 1.

Pros: engine sounds quieter
Cons: never burn oil
Vehicle: Lexus GS
Mileage: 5000 km

PENNZOIL Engine oil

Put about 300K on two different M54's so far. Originally Mobil1/Castrol 0W30 (that was the original BMW recommendation in early 2000s), eventually switched to Pennzoil Euro 5W40 for oil leak reduction.

Pros: oil leak reduction
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 300000 km

Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 265000 km

When I switched from Kirkland I noticed no condensation under the oil cap vs having a milky consistency under the cap. I think the hybrid oil deals with moisture better in these hybrid engines.

Pros: no condensation, better moisture control
Cons: milky consistency

Funny, I changed my oil today for the first time as well. Also 1700 miles. Not black but certainly a lot darker than the Mobil One 0w40 that replaced it..

Pros: darker than Mobil One
Cons: oil darker
Mileage: 1700 km

I used US Mobil 1 0W-40 in my old 1.8T (mk4). I used it for two changes (finished off a box) and always found it was burnt at only 3k miles. You could smell it as soon as I pulled the dipstick out.

Pros: easy to find
Cons: burnt at 3k miles
Mileage: 3000 km
