From my own experiences, M1 is excellent. Been putting it in my 30 year old Celica for 7 years, gotten 160k miles out of it, 320k miles on the original motor in total. My buddy’s Corolla had a bad timing chain slap on startup, went dead silent ever since swapping him over to M1. I just stick to what I know.

Pros: M1 is excellent
Vehicle: Toyota Celica
Mileage: 257495 km

Motorex Engine oil

In my Shiver 750, Motul or Motorex every 3,500 miles were required to keep neutral findable when you want it and hidden when you don’t. False or impossible-to-find neutrals were a sign that it was time for an oil change.

Pros: findable neutral
Cons: impossible-to-find neutrals
Mileage: 3500 km

I run Mobil 1 15w50 in Colorado in my 1.8 8v 85 GTi. For camshaft insurance I add a zinc additive at oil change time.

Pros: camshaft insurance
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Part number: 15W/50

I typically use whatever is cheapest and proven oils for all my cars. I have an '08 2.5 and have been using T6 5w40, they typically run coupons for them for $20 or 25.00 for the gallon jug. No, it doesn't get VW's official stamp of approval but it seems to do pretty well in this application and seems quite popular amongst various other makes especially Euro cars that require a 40wt oil. Quite honestly, I'm pretty sure you can run a quality 5W30 in this motor, it is not anything special. I've run M1 0W-40 and although it has the VW spec labeled on it, my car always had a faint tick coming from the valve cover area (lifter?) when warm. It never did this with the T6 oil in it.

Pros: VW spec labeled on it
Cons: faint tick when warm

I use to use Mobil 1 Full Syth. and it was a mistake the \"knocking.pinging\" noise will also reduce using the right grade oil. Learn from my past experiences.

Cons: knocking, pinging noise
