Engine oil Mobil or Motorex

Mobil Engine oil

I vaguely remember a video or a study done on mobile? Syntec or something, a somewhat scientific study pulling samples every 1k miles and sending out to a lab. Bottom line was that the oil actually got better over miles and they abandoned the project at 15k miles.

Pros: oil got better over miles
Mileage: 24140 km

I used OEM Mazda Moly 0w20 oil for most of the last 8 years, until I started getting coolant showing up in my Blackstone used oil lab reports. Switched to Mobil1 5w30 high mileage this last time, 2,500 miles ago.

Cons: coolant showing in reports
Vehicle: Mazda
Mileage: 2500 km

Good old fashioned Mobil 1 for me. It wasn’t available during the pandemic so I used Valvoline Synthetic for a couple of years.

Pros: good old fashioned

Mobil Engine oil

If I could only have one oil for all my vehicles it would be Mobil1 0w-40 because it meets all the stringent European requirements and has been shown to have a cleaning effect on dirty engines.

Pros: cleaning effect on engines

Mobil Engine oil

Throughout the summer I was averaging a quart every 750-1000 miles, still using Mobil1 15w50 & Viscoplus. This winter it dropped back down to 1 quart every 500 miles, but as the weather has warmed up, my consumption seems to have decreased again. I think that had something to do with the oil, which was admittedly way too thick for cold weather. I would let the car warm up a couple minutes before driving because that oil is syrup in cold weather.

Pros: good consumption in summer
Cons: too thick for cold
Vehicle: Volkswagen
