Engine oil LIQUI MOLY or Castrol
Did another oil change today, and not a lot of consumption, still pulled 6.5 quarts out of the engine. Been using the Castrol Edge 5W40, and on the back has the 501, 502 and 505 certification.
I run the 5w-40 synthetic liqui moly in the dark blue bottle. can be sourced locally in US at NAPA for about $45. Many run the Mobil one 0w-30, I use that along with a LM engine flush, which I do every oil change( 6 month intervals) I have tried the 5w.-30 from Liqui Moly also. Best performance hands down 5w-40 year round. It has all the specs for our cars.
since I have been using the Liqui Moly I really have not had that much of an issue with oil loss.
I use Castrol syn in our VW because they call for Castrol syn. The only thing I've found is that our VW which called for Castrol Syn 0w20 always sounded clattery - until I switched to 5w30. I guess we are suffering a little MPG at the cost of a quiet engine but I won't use the 0w20 again.
I actually just bought that Liquid Moly 5w-40 on Amazon, more expense but reviews for our cars are great. Will report back after my next oil change.
As someone mentioned the Castrol Edge 5w-40 (black bottle) that Napa carries is probably very close to VW OEM dealer oil. If it is good enough for Porsche I am sure it is more than good enough for VW.
Going to use what I use on all my VW's - Liqui Moly Good quality and Amazon has some great prices.
\"German Castrol\" 0-30, extractor at 5ks and drain at 10ks
I did my first oil change at around 6,500 miles and used Castrol EDGE 5w-40.
Volvo 940 Turbo; Castrol Edge Synthetic 0w40. Seems to play nice with the old seals and works pretty nicely in the winter too.
