Has anyone here tried Ravenol yet? I've been using Liqui Moly's TOP TEC 6200 VW 508/509 but read around that this oil below is also good if not better.
Try using 5w30 castrol from walmart black container with green writing, since switched been driving 2.7k with in 2-3 month oil on the same level
I'm running 5qt 5W40 full synthetic oil (Castrol Edge, to be specific). The oil is changed yearly cause I never get close to the 10k miles suggested by VW for an oil interval.
Went to the dealer today and got this. 5 QTS CASTROL EDGE PROFESSIONAL 0W20 LONG LIFE IV (RED CAP) 1 VW Oil filter, Volkswagen 04E 115 561 H 1 Drain plug with washer $74.99
I ran Castrol 0w-40 euro blend for both my e46s and the stuff was awesome
I did an oil change at 6,300 miles on the factory fill. I sent it in for a UOA through Blackstone labs, but I'm not sure how to attach it here. The TBN showed some life still left in the oil, they suggested trying 8,000 miles next.
I would drain that oil with the Marvel in it and use use 0w-40 Castrol Full Synthetic (Made in Germany/Belgium). You can get a 5 quart jug at Wal-Mart for less than $25 usually. It's probably the best "over the counter" oil you can use in a VR6. Widely used and highly recommended.
I went with the Castrol Edge 0w-40 because it's a great oil with a good PAO content. It's also fairly inexpensive. I'll sacrifice the rebate on Mobil 1 as this oil seems to hold up better for my driving style over 10k miles.
I typically use Castrol Edge 0W-40 at 5000 mile change intervals unless my annual service interval comes up at the dealership.
As much as I love to use Mobil One, I am going to stick with Castrol because VW dealership won't give me any credit for the Castrol in exchange for the Mobil one.
