All the local autoparts stores in my area have the proper VW approved oil oil on their shelves. I buy the Castrol that VW uses for the original fill. The weight does not matter much...you are over thinking it.

Castro 10- 60 Audi uses it in R8 GT which is NA and not subject to extra thermal loaf of TC. Live in South Florida so cold starts not an issue and Sebring in August is HOT. Also run 50 % VP 103 in summer to cool things a bit and reduce prevent timing loss.

Pros: good for hot climate, reduces timing loss

Castrol is notorious for getting dirty very fast (detergents is the popular explanation). Why I like Mobil 1 a lot, doesn't discolor nearly as fast and still a very good synthetic oil.

Pros: good synthetic oil
Cons: gets dirty fast

Castrol 0W30 (a.k.a. German Castrol :thumbup seemed to shear thin very little over a similar interval, which is why I preferred it.
