OK, then what works for me is Castrol Syntec 0w30 European Car Formula.
i drive a 95 jetta vr6 i currently running mobil 1 10w-40 but i been hearing alot of good things about this new castrol edge thinking about switching to the 5w-40....im hoping i feel a difference
i run 20/50 Castrol year round. it actually reduced the burning and smoking of oil on start up, unlike Mobil 1. i'm glad i switched over.
It seems 15w-40 is the standard diesel weight. I bought Castrol last time because it was on a good promo sale.... 5 quarts and filter for $5 (after rebate).
I recently swapped to German Castrol 0w30, it starts high 30 and stays high 30, so far, I've experienced no oil loss - but it's too early to say, but it makes sense.
I have been using it for about 15k km and two oil changes and have noticed allot less burn off compared to the dealer filled castrol 5w -40.
for the ow-30 im guessing your talking about german castrol. thats what im using right now and it works well
IMO most anything is better than Castrol!
I have been using Castrol 0W30 European Formula all year round and it offers great protection in the coldest cold and the Highest Humid Heat. I used to use Mobil One 0W40 but it seems my car likes the Castrol 0W30 better since it runs smoother and gets a tad better gas mileage.
I currently use ELF Exellium NF, Motul is good too I was tempted to get it....you can also check out ECS Tuning, they sell Lubro Molly now, I think that's gonna be my next choice and I might stick with it. I've used Amsoil for about 20K miles and liked it too. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with Castrol Syntec 5w40 either, I've used it since new all the way till 60K miles.
