Engine oil Castrol or AMSOIL
The best oil you can get for that car is the amsoil signature series. 0w30 or 5W30 in warm climate.
any oil that meets the LL-01 standard will do, buy whatever is on sale. Castrol Edge Euro 5w30 is fine, Mobil 1 euro synthetic, whatever.
My conclusion was to use the best Castrol in the gold bottle. Of course, YOU must use the specification of weight recommended by the owners manual for the temperature range you expect to be operating in.
The gallon of Castrol is the same whether you buy it at CT or Napa.
I switched over to Amsoil and I the engine runs much better.
Personally I always run Castrol and it's done me well, even in older cars that had been a bit battered.
Been using the molygen one, noticed a small reduction of oil consumption and better idling than Castrol (VW recommended)
I use the blue bottle 5w-40 on my 2.5 Mk5 Rabbit.
Runs quieter than when i used Castrol High Mileage.
About $22 for 5 Qts. of Castrol (you can buy it on Amazon or at Walmart for a decent price). Filter is about $4.00 or more if you buy a premium filter.
I used Amsoil 5w40 European Car formula or Gulf 5w40 Formula G in my A6 previously. Technically Amsoil doesn't have the have the VW 502 00, 505 00 certifications so I think I will start using Gulf Formula G or GX exclusively in my R, either the 5w40 or 5w30 grade.
