STOPTECH Brake pads

I have always followed a similar technique that I found from StopTech but it's cool to see what is happening while doing it. And for anyone doing this, it takes a good long drive to cool down everything before you come to a complete stop. I didn't watch the whole thing but heard the guy touch on it briefly and that is if you have to come to a complete stop do not leave your foot on the brake pedal as you will surely leave a big blotch of pad material in that one spot and then you will get the "warped rotor" feeling as that bit of the rotor will be extra grabby.

Pros: cool to see process
Cons: risk of pad material blotch

Hmm, I find my Golf TDI brakes to be excellent. Havent tracked them, but have punished them on occasion with liberal use of power on the highway, even combined with going down hill, and have never experienced fade.

Pros: brakes are excellent
Cons: havent tracked them

You can also try the harder OEM VW pad in the rear. They'll take longer to wear down than the soft version of the OEM pads and generate less dust. I installed them on mine last year and there is no layer of black dust between car washes. The down side I get noise when there is rust on my rotors but that usually goes away after a couple of braking stops.

Pros: less dust, longer wear
Cons: noise when rotors rusty

Pay attention to the brakes. For what it is worth ... I have a 2010 Routan SE which has been great except for the brakes. I bought the car new and the brakes it came with (rear) lasted 17,000 mi.

Pros: entertainment system worth gold
Cons: brakes lasted short time
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 33000 km

I've read some other threads where people have had to replace their brake pads at 20k miles or so, some think it was due to a tight emergency brake forcing the brake assist to clamp.

Cons: brake pads wear quickly
Mileage: 20000 km
