I use (and like) ATE type 200 fluid and Hawk HPS or Ferodo DS2500 pads, for autox.
I run Stoptech Street Perfomance pads on my Miata and my Mustang. The Stoptech pads, from what I can tell, don't bite as hard as the Hawk pads people like to run, but they seem to be more linear in their braking response. And this might hold true for all pads, but the Stoptechs, especially on a cooler day, need a run or some sort of warm-up before they really feel good. Once they do get a bit of heat into them, they really feel nice and predictable.
Stoptech brake test mounted to the spindles. I buffed off the Stoptech logo with buffing compound. I prefer the understated look.
brakes i would go with Zimmerman, ATE or Brembo rotors. now for pads go with Hawk HPS 5.0. the just very little and STOP. Plus they are easy on rotors. i know because i have them.
Brakes were great, no fade issues(Hawk Ceramic 5.0 pads up front, stockers in the rear) running Motul RBF. Mixed conditions so I had a little of everything, rain, drying, damp. NO bias problems at all, no issues w/the ABS doing funky things. The car didn't want to throw itself off track or anything like that, even in the rain. Just very progressive feel. They put up with me having to trailbrake the crap out of this car so I figure they did ok.
Front Golf R OEM Brakes include: TyrolSport Stainless Steel brake lines TyrolSport Caliper Stiffener kit (re-lubed every year - had them on for 4 years, re-lubed 3 Times, so good condition) Hawk HPS pads The above parts were installed at about the 24k mile point, so have about 24k miles on them.
Actually just installed a set in my MK6 GLI and they are a whole lot better than the OEM branded pads.
Love the pads, don't like the squealing at times, but for a high torque pad it's really good. They have the same feeling at Hawk DTC's which I use on track, but have that strong bite at a MUCH lower temp. than the DTC's do.
I've had a couple of bad experiences with Stop Tech pads ( High Performance division of Centric ). Euro made semi metallic pads are usually very good ( ATE, Brembo, Ferodo Valeo ). Bendix Titanium II pads are very good. Akebono Premium Ceramic pads are very, very good...
I put stoptech pads on my 2011 hatch and they have been so beyond noisey they have been driving me insane. Gotta find something else to replace them with. Hope your experience is better!
