Brake pads Ferodo or Hawk Performance

Hawk Performance Brake pads

Update: I changed out the rear pads without difficulty and the brake hardware looked normal. I replaced the worn pads with Hawk Ceramics (ECS Tuning), greased the calipers up and will hope for the best.

Pros: brake hardware looked normal

I spoke with someone at Hawk yesterday (not Mr. DeMarino). The rep told me that Hawk Ceramic are more linear than HPS but otherwise have similar friction.

Pros: more linear

I used Ferodo DS-2500 and Mintex Redbox on my 337, and that was my favorite brake setup of three VWs to date. Then there is my brother-in-law's 335i Sport My goal with the 337 was to delay ABS activation, as I thought that the rear was overbraked. I don't recall whether the new pad setup helped in that regard, but the DS-2500 improved the initial bite a lot.

Pros: improved the initial bite
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Hawk Performance Brake pads

The ideal setup for your Mk5 GTi is actually Hawk Performance DTC-30 up front and Hawk HPS or stock pads in the rear. You will get a very smooth engaging brake with excellent modulation out of the DTC-30 and your rear pads will "Go along for the ride".

Pros: smooth engaging brake
Vehicle: Volkswagen

I love me some blanks and Ferodo pads. But the pads aren't too budget friendly ($90 a set) and they've quite dirty, but the stopping power is awsome.

Pros: awsome stopping power
Cons: quite dirty, not budget friendly

Ferodo Brake pads

I got the upgrade, it's definitely noticeable from the stock 11.3 in the 1.8ts and vr6s - but really, if you want best stop for budget, just upgrade the rotors to slotted for heat dissapation and some good ferodo pads... but if you do upgrade, you'll notice difference in stopping - as well as your acceleration since you have more rotaional mass at that point...

Pros: noticeable difference in stopping
Cons: more rotational mass

Hawk Performance Brake pads

After a vicious session at Dunnville my HPS pads were faded to nothing after 4 laps. HP Plus aquipped cars faired better than myself. For the street HPS is a good. But if you track at all then HP PLus is the bare minimum with Blue being preferred.

Pros: good for the street
Cons: faded to nothing, not for track use

I would steer away from the Hawk HPS pads for track use. I used em just for a track day and they were starting to fade. Like someone else mentioned, the Hawk HP plus is better

Cons: starting to fade
