I was pretty unhappy with the short life span/brake dust of the stock rotors/pads, so when it was time to change them I went with: Centric Cryo-Treated rotors, Hawk HP Street 5.0 pads. I got what I was looking for in terms of improvements to longevity and brake dust, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the bite of the stock setup.

Pros: improved longevity, less brake dust
Cons: missed stock bite

Centric high-carbon rotors and Hawk HP Street 5.0s. Less initial bite than the OEM pads, but more stopping force with higher pedal pressures and much less dust.

Pros: more stopping force, much less dust
Cons: less initial bite

Ebc Red Stuff. They are a little milder than Yellow but still high performance. I can get a 20 min track session with limited fade. Although once I forgot to turn stability control off and they faded very badly after about 10 min. Less dusty than stock setup.

Pros: high performance, limited fade, less dusty
Cons: faded badly with stability control on
Vehicle: Ford Fiesta

Hawk Performance Brake pads

For pads I'm having pretty good success with the new Hawk Ceramic 5.0. I run those on my GLI(with Golf R calipers/brakes) and on the .:R. I was surprised for light track duty they were ok on both cars. Not a full on track pad to be clear. They are also a high torque pad so they have really good bite.

Pros: high torque, good bite
Cons: not for full track

I used Corrado G60 hubs (still retaining 4x100 lug pattern) Corrado 4-wheel ABS system paired to adapters to run 11.8" 4piston Mercedes Benz front brakes with Yellowstuff EBC race compound pads and 10.2" rear discs with Hawk HPS pads. This brake configuration to mass ratio was already an upgrade on the 4800# donor car, here they are absolutely insane on a sub 3000# Mk1 Cabriolet.

Pros: insane stopping power

Agree w/ all above especially EBC red pads. I put in performance rotors (blank, not drilled or slotted though) but not necessary. Just wanted a clean slate for the pads. But the final piece of the puzzle is to run higher performance tires.

Pros: performance rotors

Hawk 5.0 for street/autox. I like them but they do make a fair bit of dust and maybe a little underpowered for heavy track.

Pros: good for street/autox
Cons: lots of dust, underpowered
