Battery OEM Nissan or Tesla

OEM Nissan Battery

My Nissan Leaf battery, which everyone on Reddit with an electric car they bought yesterday is very sure will die any minute, has yet to lose any of its range after 6 years and 50k miles.

Pros: no range loss
Vehicle: Nissan Leaf
Mileage: 80467 km

If I could easily repurpose the cells in my 140k mile Model 3 into home storage for my solar I would rather do that than sell the car. 3% degradation the car itself needed more work than a replacement battery ever would have cost.

Pros: minor battery degradation
Cons: car needed more work
Mileage: 140000 km

My 2015 Leaf has 148k on it and still drives like new. The battery is down to about 85% but this is pretty old lithium tech with very early thermal controls on it.

Pros: drives like new, low maintenance
Cons: battery down to 85%
Vehicle: Nissan Leaf
Mileage: 148000 km

My EV is 8 this year. I've not noticed a drop in range over that time, but I'll find out when it goes in for its last battery health check before the warranty expires.

Pros: no drop in range

Tesla Battery

I don't want someone else's crusty ass battery. Charge times are already low and are plentiful (Tesla at least), I don't see the utility of swapping the battery out when I could stop for like 15 mins.

Pros: charge times are low
Cons: unnecessary complication
Vehicle: Porsche

I got a battery from Nissan under warranty. It has a 7 year 84K warranty if I recall. That battery less than 6 months later gave a fault and they replaced it again. '22 SV

Pros: long warranty
Cons: failed quickly
Vehicle: Nissan

battery life is astonishingly unpredictable. I drove 20 miles, but lost ~35 miles of range. Not driving crazy, either. Everything else is decent, but can't help but feel like it's a time bomb.

Cons: unpredictable range, significant range loss
