Battery OEM Nissan or OEM BMW

OEM BMW Battery

These were very very well made batteries. They also used to be insanely expensive. Now, BMW knows the game and offers a 2 year warranty, which is pretty low for batteries, but they are very competitively priced.

Pros: well made batteries
Cons: short warranty

I have been driving a 2022 330e since March 2022 and haven’t seen any battery degradation to date. In the NY winter I still get at least 20 miles on a full charge, in the summer 23-30.

Pros: no battery degradation, consistent range
Cons: lower range in winter

I set off to test the X5 battery to see if degradation was better or worse than my iPhone's 10% degradation over one year. We've driven 29,996 miles, 15,296.5 electric. My best all-electric range achieved was about 41 miles when new. After one year, I achieved exactly 41 all-electric miles from a full charge in ideal conditions. Zero percent degradation as measured by this test. It appears temperature and AC/heat use have much greater impacts on range than actual battery health at this stage. Results look better than expected for long term ownership and residual value.

Pros: zero degradation, better than expected
Cons: range affected by temperature
Vehicle: BMW X5
Mileage: 48275 km

OEM Nissan Battery

I'm in central Texas and the Leaf does just fine for in city driving. The batteries run hotter than a liquid cooled battery does of course but they are capable of operating at Texas summer temperatures. Where they struggle is on long highway trips. High speeds mean more load on the battery which also means more heat and more likely to have the car limit power due to battery temps. I have noticed that Leafs in Texas do tend to show more battery degradation and less capacity than leafs that are in cooler climate.

Pros: fine for city driving
Cons: struggles on highway, more degradation

OEM Nissan Battery

I have a 2015 Nissan LEAF SV. In -25C or colder (and to be fair, it's rarely -25C (not counting the windchill) during the day), with moderate heat on (set heat to 19C or less) plus heated steering wheel and heated seats (both of which use relatively very little power), I can lose a good 60% of my range

Pros: save a lot on fuel
Cons: battery degradation
Vehicle: Nissan Leaf

530e with a little over 20,000 miles shows 10 miles electric range on a nice summer day. It used to show 15 when new. BMW said that the drop was not warranty worthy.

Cons: reduced electric range, not warranty worthy
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 32187 km

They checked connections and hooked up meter left hooked up for 2 days..It draws .07 amps when just sitting.
