I had to buy a replacement remanufactured alternator (Valeo 120A one) and it was a straight replacement that solved the problem.

Pros: straight replacement, solved problem

Mine went dead a couple years ago on my 2012 camry and local shops quoted me upwards of $400 for it. So I YouTubed an instructional video, bought one off ebay for less than $100, and it was going strong up until I sold it earlier this year.

Pros: going strong
Cons: expensive local shops
Vehicle: Toyota Camry

I installed the Valeo alternator that I got from FCP Euro and everything works now. The rebuilt Valeo was $200 less expensive than the Valeo that O’Reilly’s had in their computer but couldn’t order themselves. Also it was immaculate. It was a true rebuild and looked brand new in every way. It was $400.

Pros: immaculate, brand new
Cons: expensive

OEM Toyota Alternator

I would not cheap out on an alternator, especially if you’re having a shop install it as paying for labor to replace two low quality alternators is equivocal to one OEM.

Pros: OEM parts are better
Cons: low quality alternators

I just went through a headache replacing my 3rd alternator in 2 years. I took it to the shop and they put an oem alternator in it and told me not to buy the parts store alternators. It's fine if you don't mind pulling them out to replace every year or so.

Pros: oem part solves problem
Cons: parts store alternators bad

VALEO Alternator

A bearing went in our original alternator so I replaced it with a Valeo brand and it's pretty loud when it clicks on. It is loud enough that I'm wondering if I got a bad alternator --or is this normal??

It's the typical whirl or whurr noise --it's silent, and then you can hear the whirl or whurr noise when the alternator clicks on. It seems mechanically and electrically fine: It's doing what it should be doing electrically (charging, correct voltage, the battery is happy, the car runs better with this new alternator, etc.). It's just loud.

Pros: mechanically fine, electrically fine, car runs better
Cons: pretty loud, whirl or whurr noise
Vehicle: Ford Escape
Mileage: 170000 km

Alternator has been replaced 2 times within the year battery is also new and the odds of 2 brand new faulty alternators is pretty slim.

Pros: new battery
Cons: faulty alternators
Vehicle: Toyota

Actually, yes. I did. They did take it back though, after a couple of phone calls.\n\n+1 for Valeo. -10 for Reman.\n\nIf your alternator goes, absolutely get a new one, original spec.

Pros: Valeo is good
Cons: Reman is bad
Vehicle: BMW
