Alternator OEM Audi or Denso

Denso Alternator

Replacement is absolutely fine as an option, but I recommend going with a genuine brand as originally specced for the vehicle (Denso, AC Delco etc). Some aftermarket brands like Jaylec (just an example of brand, not quality) aren't built to the same standard and can be underpowered.

Pros: genuine brand recommended
Cons: aftermarket brands underpowered

OEM Audi Alternator

I had my alternator go out on me at 165,000 KM on my audi S3 2015, got a rebuild for half the price of a brand new one and since it's a rebuild the warranty on it is for 2 years. Paid roughly 500 bucks and 100 for labor.

Pros: rebuild half price, 2 year warranty
Vehicle: Audi S3
Mileage: 165000 km

Denso Alternator

DIY Guy here, I always use Denso parts for my Hondas when it comes to electrical stuff. Denso is the OEM parts supplier for Honda's alternators. I just replaced an alternator in my sister's 2011 Acura RDX with a remanufactured Denso unit and she's had no problems with it at all.

Pros: no problems at all
Vehicle: Acura RDX

That mechanic must be using some really cheap alternators, we use denso alternators where I work and rarely have issues.

Pros: rarely have issues
Cons: cheap alternators

Don\u2019t get any of those aftermarket ones. I\u2019m not sure what aftermarket brand it was that my mechanic got but months later the steering wheel would intermittently lock up while driving. It was not easy to diagnose as the voltage would read fine. Ended up getting a Denso one, paid a lot because needed it urgently. Been fine ever since.

Pros: steering wheel no longer locks
Cons: steering wheel intermittently lock

Just make sure to buy either new OEM, used OEM, or a good rebuild like Denso. Parts store ones have a bad record of either being bad directly out of the box, or crapping out in short order.

Pros: good rebuild like Denso
Cons: bad record, crapping out

Im going to say OEM. I have a 2004 acura tsx, which is essentially an accord. I replaced my alternator with a denso remanufactured unit from rockauto. It worked, but the battery light stayed on. I bit the bullet and bought an OEM a year later just to turn the damn light off.

Pros: worked initially
Cons: battery light stayed on
Vehicle: Acura TSX
