I have a 2015 R and my water pump failed in January, about 2 months before my warranty expired. It was covered by the dealer under the warranty so not sure what the cost was. Pump and thermostat were both replaced.

Pros: covered under warranty

I have a Gates part with a plastic impeller in my car now and it's been attached to that motor since late 2015 with no issues when it was in my e34 and isn't showing any issues now in my E30.

Pros: long lasting, no issues
Vehicle: BMW

I purchase the all aluminum pump made by Graf from FCP euro, they have a lifetime warranty, free shipping and good prices. I removed the manifold to get to the water pump. I had a problem with the cheap thermostat that came with it. It caused my car to run hot.

Pros: lifetime warranty, good prices
Cons: car run hot

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

I have a MK6 and a MK7 and they both suffer the same crappy design. Making a water pump primarily out of plastic is just a bad idea. My MK6 is on at least it's third water pump at a little over 100k miles.

Cons: crappy design, plastic parts, poor reliability
Mileage: 160000 km
