Fitted new gates belt
Owner reviews for timing belt
Both of those price sound steep - my local shop in Ontario charges half that, currently about 1100cad plus taxes but can't remember the warranty. Car still runs fine 2 years later though
I paid $1500 to a very reputable foreign mechanic last month for my 2012 golf tdi
Oe quality parts:
Timing belt, tensioners/roller, water pump, manual transmission fluid, coolant, serpentine belt.
Dayco, continental should be fine, as long as it’s not China Amazon stuff. Gates it usually good but as with anything these days quality control is a crap shoot.
Built Toyota tough. 20+ years out of a factory belt.
I have been running an INA timing belt for many years with 400+whp and never had and issue. I have installed dozens of INA kits on clients vehicles and never had an issue.
I bought my 1st Toyota T100 3.4l it had 198k miles, when I removed upper timing cover, the water pump pulley FELL out, the belt was about 1/2 as wide as new. Truck ran fine!
Timing belt is only issue with these.
There is a fault with these engines! The belt starts to break up prematurely, clogging up the oil galleries inside the engine! First sign of this starting to happen is your turbo starts to get louder, then siezes. Happened mine just outside of warranty (42k miles). Luckily honda footed the bill and replaced the engine.
Mine has been unreliable. The timing belt blew, both lower control arms and shocks needed to be replaced, and also both wheel bearings. Just my experience, I got mine at 130k and I'm at 155k now. Im getting rid of it. \n\n\nSo if anyone wants a c30 with a ton of work done feel free to message me lol. Its perfectly good now, fun to drive and I bet thats about everything that needed to be replaced.
