I was using Kirkland synthetic before for topping off and other American oils for oil changes I’m sure, but then I went to a euro auto shop and they switched out for a German filter and oil, LIQUI MOLY, and I got a significant increase in mileage.

I use OEM Mazda filter. Synthetic oil, Kirkland brand or Castrol since i think thats who makes the Mazda oil.
Also get a good Putolator or Subaru brand oil filter that is rated for the higher Subaru oil pressure so that it is filtering more often and not blowing open the internal filter bypass because Clean oil will make the engine last longer.
It’s easy peasy to DIY at every OCI (5k mi or 6 mos whichever comes first, 2014 Mazda6 Touring 6MT). Been doing it, for decades (various makes; at times with an oil boy vacuum fluid extractor). Will be changing mine tomorrow. This time, will try Kirkland 0W20, with a German Hengst oil filter (identical dimensions/specs Made in Japan OEM Mazda PE01-14-302) plus Lubro Moly MoS2 (molybdenum).
I recently switched to Amsoil using a Mann filter. It runs great.
I used the Castrol once, and have been buying the assembled kit from ECS ever since. At 73K miles, now, and change it every 7-8K.
MAHLE is the OE supplier for the Hyundai/KIA filter you're trying to get.
I've seen Fram oil filters cause this, but in your photo, it appears you have a black Mann/Mahle/Bosch/VW filter on it
Also, na installan ako ng defective oil filter sa Casa na na hassle pa akong ibalik at muntik pa ma sira yung engine ko, buti nalang hindi..
Stay away from fram as the name is just ruined in many peoples eyes. I wouldn't buy something for good money with fram on it.
