I ended up buying that evening a new Hitachi (original manufacture for VW) HPFP ($300) from Rockauto because they were significantly cheaper all the other suppliers. Then as I dove deeper I started looking for just the fuel pressure regulator or as Hitachi calls it the fuel pump flow rate control solenoid. I found one on amazon from brand X for $30 that had a 4 star review from 600 people but after saturday evening I could never find that listing again so on sunday I bought this one and it arrived today as well as my Hitachi HPP0015 HPFP. I installed the $30 regulator in my original HPFP and its been working GREAT for 2 years now.

Pros: working great for 2 years
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Part number: HPP0015

OEM BMW High-pressure fuel pump

Turns out the high pressure fuel pump had disintegrated and the entire fuel system had to be replaced. They tried to blame it on water in the fuel, I didn’t cave, so warranty covered it.

Pros: warranty covered repair
Cons: fuel system replaced
Vehicle: BMW X5
Mileage: 78000 km

OEM Volkswagen High-pressure fuel pump

I had a tdi and it was great getting 40 miles on a tank no matter how fast I drove, I did not delete anything , I would not do that and even if I wanted to dot my state would catch me, fuel is generally but not always more expensive, up there with premium , the big gotcha with my two wa snot that they cheated but the high pressure fuel pump was a ticking time bomb, I went through 3 of them, and they were fuc\\*\\*\\* expensive, like several thousands dollars to replace, I bought my car brand new and took care of it , the first one dies around 65,000 miles or about 2 years of driving, vw paid for that , the shop bill was 5 k, the best one dies on my about 120,000 miles and that was on my dime, cost me about 1800 and that was with a donated HPFP and not draining the gas tank 100 %. which is not the proper way to replace it but at that point VW was already buying mine back and I just had to get it there in running condition. I also would have needed a new DPF which VW wanted about 2 k to replace.

Pros: great mileage
Cons: HPFP ticking time bomb
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 104607 km

OEM Jeep High-pressure fuel pump

Other than the high pressure fuel pump recall, and the hilarity that ensued with the hacks at the dealership, I’ve had no issues. I have 50K miles on it, offroad it quite a bit, regular oil changes, and the owner of my 4x4 shop is the only one working on it.

Cons: high pressure fuel pump recall
Vehicle: Jeep
Mileage: 50000 km

The previous owner had me replace the high pressure fuel pump due to a P0087 code that he got about a year ago around 240-260k. I purchased an OEM Honda HPFP from Honda parts now. How likely is it this part failed? I used my scan tool and looked fuel rail pressure and was getting 30psi. Number never moved after I reved up the engine. I’m suspecting the pump has gone bad but concerned that a year is what I got out of a factory part.

Cons: failed after one year, low fuel pressure
Vehicle: Honda Accord
Mileage: 119000 km
