Cheap insurance - put in a winterizer AND run your engine for a little bit to get it to cycle through the filters and lines. I use Stanadyne’s blue label additive year round but it also has a winterizer agent in it.

Any major brand will do - Howe’s, Power Service, Hot Shots … I always used Power Service because it has the Cummins logo on it.
Use a fuel additive like Chevron Techron every oil change.
Redex Diesel Cleaner is the nuts, get +15mpg on my TDI on a long run compared to standard diesel, well worth it.
You add a shot every full tank and it turns normal diesel into premium with added cleaners. This means your car is always running additives through it which makes a huge difference compared to the occasional top up of the supermarket stuff. It works out as pennies per tank, much cheaper than premium diesel and you’ll see all the benefits including better economy.
I used an all-rounder one, like from Wynn's. I was positive this was snake oil but I was in my Vito, about 200 miles away from home in limp mode. Error codes for turbo. I chucked this in since I was stuck, got some smoke pooting out the exhaust and then boom - limp mode cleared.
I use and recommend Wynns Formula Gold, available from Halfords, Amazon and many other outlets. I have used it every 6th fill up for the last 4yrs in my now 13yr old BMW 318d. Great fuel economy and acceleration sails through the MOT emissions test, a bit more expensive than some of the other treatments on the market but I find it pays for itself with the increased fuel economy.
Driving from the Alabama - Tennessee line to the gulf coast, most downhill I mind you - predominantly interstate, I have never gotten more than 23. This was with little to no load, Nitrogen tires, Fresh air filter & oil, premium fuel, & Lucas fuel tx additive.
I have been using Mannol's benzene ester based additive for the last 200kms of driving. I dont expect much from this, but what I did notice is that the engine has got a tad bit smooth, just a lil bit. Mileage remains more or less the same.
I bought a bottle a few years back. It tasted like STP. Would not recommend.
