MOTUL Engine oil

General rule of thumb for mqb cars is if it\u2019s stock, run stock spec oil. If it\u2019s tuned run 5w40. Personally we run Motul 8100 xcess gen 2 5w40 in 3/4 cars.

Pros: run stock spec oil

VALVOLINE Engine oil

Rating 4.0

Oil burning around 150k, although switching to Valvoline Restore & Protect I've basically eliminated it. Seems to be related to carbon buildup in the low tension rings.

Pros: eliminated oil burning
Cons: carbon buildup
Mileage: 150000 km

OEM Toyota Engine oil

Forgive me but I’m confused. The Tundra doesn’t have two separate oil reservoirs that I’m aware of and I change my own oil. Also, for what it’s worth mines been flawless since 2022 and almost 40,000 miles (not that that is a lot but just saying).

Pros: flawless performance
Cons: none
Mileage: 40000 km

Mobil Engine oil

Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 and Delvac 5W40 are right next to each other at Walmart and usually within a dollar of each other in price. Our 2 cars use Mobil 1 ESP and my diesel Jeep uses Delvac 5W40. Both are good oils, so I think it will just be your personal preference. Blackstone tests will tell you the story on your oil and intervals better than Reddit.

Pros: good oils

An oil change to Liqui Moly 5w40 worked wonders for mine. Still zero lifter tick after about 1500 miles. Highly recommend.

Pros: zero lifter tick
Vehicle: Mazda
Mileage: 2414 km

Castrol Engine oil

I have a 2010 Jetta TDI cup edition with the CJAA engine and the factory spec listed in the manual is 5W-40… On top of that the oil cap alone has Castrol on it\nSo Castrol 5W-40…. End of story…. I apologize if I sound condescending as I do not mean to and also recognize you may have purchased your vehicle second hand and it may have not come with a manual… But if the top of your 710 aka oil cap says Castrol on it and you truly have a CJAA engine then I guarantee you that Castrol 5W-40 is the proper oil regardless of location or climate Ps…. Anyone who claims to use or recommend anything else has also probably had massive engine problems or engine repairs an question why they had those issues Follow factory spec and maintenance recommendations…. I’m pushing 280k on my CJAA engine without a single issue

Pros: proper oil, no engine issues
Mileage: 280000 km

I burn a little bit of oil and started to run the Valvoline restore and protect 5w30 in my n18 r56 with 178k miles (286k km). Hard to tell what burns vs leaks out though.

Cons: unclear oil consumption effect
Vehicle: MINI
Mileage: 286000 km
