Lead acid batteries work great and have a reputation for going the distance.
I only use Varta batteries and i hade my 4 years and i dont even use it in winters(6Months) and when i charge it it keeps me up the rest of the summer around 6 months there too...=)
just replaced 4 year old battery in my 2010 Wagon. It was not really a rocket science but it was nice to have a write up nonetheless. The biggest issue for me was to figure out group size for my battery: supposedly both 47 and 48 work but I wanted to get an exact model. After some online research and hard measurements it was clear my current battery was group size 48. Went with Bosch from Pep Boys for 108 (with tax and after 30% coupon). Despite the car being without the battery for 8+ hours, I had no issues with codes, errors, etc. The only thing I needed to adjust was the time.
If you have a PepBoys nearby, they have a Bosch that fits.
Been running an optima in both my cars for years. Best decision ever.
Just wanted to update for the sake of others wanting to change their own battery. I went ahead and picked up a new battery from the VW Stealership for $150 (after tax and disposal fee's) It was exactly the same as the one i took out.
How practical is a Tesla for a person with a 30-mile commute (each way)? Between my commute and running around, I probably spend $80 per week on gas.
Optima isn't nearly as good as it used to be. I've owned a lot of their dry cell batteries and they've gone to **** over the years. They don't hold up well to this kind of use, and if they drop below 11V they **** the bed.
Once Johnson Controls bought them, they've become worse and worse.
