I was able to remove the inner part of the WIX filter element while replacing the filter for some inspection. It was solid black. I drained the fuel that was in the housing of the used filter into a container and it had black flakes in it.

Wix fuel filters from rock auto are a great alternative and a fraction of the cost. I’ve been using them for about 5 years on the same model JGC
Fuel filter - Wix
For the fuel filter I used a WIX 33323 which has a convenient mounting bracket.
Hi I replaced my OE VW Audi fuel filter with a Wix. Everyone on Reddit seemed to say it would be okay. Now my fuel filter is leaking and I cannot drive the TDI or get to work this week. I replaced the O-rings.
I've always used the Wix fuel filter, and it worked well I guess. Lol.
The plastic Wix ones are junk, and even the Baldwin doesn't perform as well as the OEM.
The wix oil filters worked well for me. The fuel filters not so much, I had a fuel water separator failure and injector failures because the wix filter was slightly shorter than the Mopar filters that I've been using.
Wix for fuel on the 7.3, but Ford OEM(Motorcraft FL-1995(A) ) on the oil filter. Never an issue.
I have 115,000km on my 2022 LM2 Silverado. So far it's been great, but some people have experienced serious issues on older ones. Gm is constantly improving this little motor. Lessons I've learned myself or through several forums and family members with the same motors:\n\n- Fuel additives seem to get better mpg and less regens \n- Only available oils are amsoil, mobil 1 and OEM. (Amsoil isn't dexos certified though)\n- Oil changes are pricey compared to gas, cheap compared to bigger diesels. I pay $250 CAD \n- Known to crack radiators (top right side) as well as water pump leaks. \n- Many people tend to replace the MAP sensor or clean it after a while to make it run smoother, it's a cheap part. \n- Doesn't seem to burn oil, but mine is consuming a little coolant lately (I suspect radiator).\n- The factory fuel filter is 5 micron but Wix makes a 2 micron replacement. Cheap and easy to do yourself. I pay around $50 CAD\n- Everyone online thinks they have blow by, they don't, just have a lot of crankcase pressure\n- Mine seems to misfire when started in weather colder than -15C for about a minute until warm. \n- A10 trans is smooth but has the odd rough downshift, I also follow the severe service interval table and change fluids with amsoil and new gm filter \n- Def consumption is never an issue other than towing. If towing anything heavy bring a jug or two. It will go into limp mode when you run out.
