That said, if you're not looking for a performance tire but a quiet, smooth, comfortable tire that holds air and hates to change direction the Cinturato P7s are for you. If you want to drive your GTI like it's a sporty car with some fun and enthusiasm, you'll find that the P7s spin, lose traction, squeal, hate to change direction chatter on braking and generally suck when driving with more vigor than an 80 year old, blind coot who doesn't want to spill his beer.
Pirelli P7 here. 13k miles on them so far. Still baffles me that VW would put a grand touring tire on the GTI but honestly somehow it works. They aren't bad, not great. In terms of comfort and road noise I think they are great, but are mediocre when it comes to handling.
I'm running the stock Pirelli P7's that came OE on the car. Currently have 7100 miles. Pressure set to recommended 37 Psi. Tires are quiet and smooth around town and on most roads. Quiet at HWY speeds as well, except on concrete where they seem to drone a bit. No perceived harshness (to me) on nearly all surfaces.
I don't know what everyone else is doing but I'm coming up on 25K on my 2014 with 255/19 p-zeros. The fronts are 70%... not even close to giving up. The rears... well, they're about 30% but that's not the fault of the tires.
The PP p zeros don't last very long under any driving conditions, and they are expensive. There are a lot of cheaper summer tires that'll last as long or longer, look at the hankook ventus v12
I'm coming up on 20k with my original 20in pirellis. The original back set is pretty much done.
I had the Nero Zeros on mine and went 40K just fine. Only at the last 10K did I start driving around with more racing and sliding etc and the tires got bald super fast lol for a daily they will be fine.
I'm on the Cinturatos and although they are a marginal tire the car is rock solid on the freeway.
I have Pirelli P4's... I love the tread warranty - expecting that I'll get 9,000 miles out of them. But I find that I'm losing traction more often than I'd like when I accelerate, and make turns.
I've put 2500 miles on the Pirellis and the positives are handling, comfort, low noise. The negative is they refuse to stay balanced.
