OEM Volkswagen Engine oil

I did first oil change on Atlas at 5k then did 10k changes, but the 3.6 is lethargic compared to the GTI which I have been doing about every 4k miles.

Pros: regular oil changes
Cons: 3.6 is lethargic
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 8046 km

OEM Volkswagen Timing chain
Dirk Tadango
  • Starting:
  • Warning light:
Rating 3.0

After doing a complete OEM parts timing job my numbers were actually initially worse 7 and 8. After driving the car for 1 tank of gas the 209 number went slightly down to 4 and 208 stayed at 7, also 90 and 91 are still flip flopped.

Cons: numbers initially worse
Vehicle: Audi TT
Mileage: 37000 km

OEM Volkswagen Head gasket
shadytheatlas
  • Overheating:
Rating 3.0

Head gasket replacement was an issue with 2018 and early 2019 models. Not 2020s. When mine was replaced my bumper was scratched at the bottom of the lights, the grill and headlights were out of alignment and parts were missing from the area that redirects air through the radiator.

Cons: bumper scratched, parts missing
Vehicle: Volkswagen

OEM Volkswagen Brake pads
Phil1336
  • Braking:
Rating 1.0

Secondly, defective Rear Disk Brake Pads that wore out on a majority of 22` Taos which was a covered rear Brake replacement if it was under 2ydears and 24 months. I just missed the cut-off and was$700 poorer.

Cons: wore out quickly
Vehicle: Volkswagen

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

As a mechanic who used to work on these cars daily, it really depends if you're willing to fork out the amount that's due every couple of years, the water pumps on vw/Audi/ Porsche and mercs are always prone to fail within a couple of years even if you go aftermarket.

Cons: water pumps prone to fail

OEM Volkswagen Brake pads

My front brake rotors warped at ~12K miles. I had them machined and they lasted about another 12k until I replaced them with aftermarket Centric. Those lasted ~12K miles until they warped. At this time I went back to VW OEM rotors and they lasted ~12k miles. I had the OEM's machined, but now they are warped again. Along the way I tried some aftermarket pads, and generally had problems I purchased a pair at NAPA and they were sloppy in the caliper and would shift and click when applying the brakes in reverse. Went back to OEM on the pads and have no problems.

Pros: OEM pads have no problems
Cons: rotors warped repeatedly, aftermarket pads sloppy
Mileage: 12000 km
