I have some decent Kumhos on mine (used to have Gislaved Nordfrost 5 on my MKIV, but they wore very quickly) and my Golf is perfectly fine in the snow.
Kuhmo XS will outperform the Hankook V12 but won't be as good as the aforementioned Star Spec or RS3 or RE11. XS is very sensitive to temperature and rain as it needs to have heat in it for it to work well.
Got Kumho ECSTA 4X installed on my wagon almost 2 months ago. 235/40/18 95XL. They replaced the good year eagle GT's. About 2k miles on them now, they are quiet and softer riding then the good year, but doesn't grip as well on dry road. (i.e. with the good year, I could not get the front tires to spin from a dead stop even if I floor it, with the kumho, they spin for a fraction of a second before the 4motion kicks in) haven't had rain so don't know how they handle in wet. But they are definitely more comfortable than the good year.
I quite like a 50 series 13" tire on a rabbit personally.
I had Kumho LE Sports on my 95 M3 and really liked them as a street tire. Quiet, good dry/wet traction, and the price was right. I'd buy them again.
Ecsta LX Platnium...running them on my Golf on 18's, love them! quiet, and handle well
I had a set of kumho's on my 08 GTI and they were terrible. Very expensive and terrible performance.
The cheapest tires I trust are Kumho.
I have those Kumhos and I am not a fan. They are quiet, but not nearly as sharp as the RE050s they replaced, but the car moved from Texas to Ohio and I had to have all-seasons. I have 50,000 on one pair and 20,000 on the other (blew out 2 sidewalls in winter potholes) and I am going to use them through the summer and then put something else on for next winter (even though there's still a lot of tread there), probably Continental DWS. They are inexpensive, last forever (if you stay out of potholes) but feel awfully soft on turnin. Not really bad, just not my thing.
The ride is very soft/smooth and quiet. Far superior in handling (obviously) and noise than the factory Michelin's were.
