The new GM's will brick too if you don't use the fancy sps login to reset the module when you change pads. It literally will brick the caliper, and you can't fix it, have to replace the whole thing AND you can't reprogram them, they are also vin locked permanently.

Mine has done it from day one. Good job GM. I’m not fixing it. Let people hear what GM is selling to people.
It’s def a GM wide issue for sure, started happening in what 20 or 21. GM said it’s normal at the time then 2 years later came out with updated pads n rotors to fix said issue.
GM uses a harder wearing pad material so that they can claim that brakes are "essentially maintenance free" because it will take forever and a day to burn thru them under normal use, but at the expense of louder brakes.
There’s a lot of negative Nancies on the internet, I have the gmpp pads and rotors and they’re 10x better than the stock pads and rotors and for those nincompoops out there that are obsessed keeping a car/truck oem they’re the parts gm uses on their KOTH (Baja) Colorado so chill out. The stopping power of the combo is great a lot of guys go with the yellow stuff pads and have great luck I just wanted a slotted look with my big wheels and tires,
I replaced the front brakes with ones from a 2005 GM truck and the rear brakes with ones from a 2002 Chevy suburban.
The GM pads are absolutely trash, they don't do anything right.
My biggest issues with older trucks: 1) Emissions choked stock engines and/or the TBI motors in the GM trucks which eat valve stem seals 2) Brakes. My Dad's '88 C2500 never felt like it had enough brake when towing a reasonable load, even with trailer brakes.
