I changed mine 2 years ago on my c7.5, they were knocking at 83k. It sucks especially when you have to mess around with the heat shield on the passenger side but worth it in the long run, especially with the money you save.

2015 A4 original owner. Control arms ah water pump. Other wise a great car. Those charges hit me at 75k and 90k
I had all 6 of my front control arms replaced on my S4 and the euro shop I go to charged me ~$1300.
A4 b8.5 with 175k on it, only problem I had was a seized brake caliper.
Have carried out preventative maintenance though, so check your timing belt/water pump. Replaced control arms on the front and brakes.
The rest is just regular service and oil change religiously at 6k miles
Audi TT and R32 control arms give you the adjustment you’re looking for.
I absolutely think that you could get an allroad and use it for daily duties (mine is an 02 2.7T auto) but there are some things you should know and take care of. There will always be something that needs to be looked at.
Audis are fun to drive and own, when you're not installing new control arms, valve cover gaskets, tensioner gaskets, timing belts..... Audis suck to maintain.
How can one tell with the control arms are going? It really seems ridiculous for them to wear out that often.
