I forgot to put my Nokian winter tires on last season and my Michelin pilot sport AS3 tires did NOT remind me I was on all season tires during our ski country, lake effect snow ridden winter.
Best Tires for Volkswagen Jetta
Our AS3 and my Continentals have historically worn smoothly, although the Michelin wear much better. Without really thinking about it I'm not sure how many miles we have on our AS3 but they are a lot of miles and even on the all-wheel drive car they have worn completely smoothly and evenly without a single hitch. Rotations with oil changes is all they get.
Personally I find General Altimax Arctics to be the best snow tire. Bought a set on my old jetta and now on my Subaru. The car is unstoppable in the snow and the price is right!
Some plain steelies and a set of Blizzaks are your friend.
I have 15s on my Jetta and run Bridgestone Blizzak WS-90s on it.
The Firehawk Indy 500 tires aren't perfect but they hold up well on a track known for eating tires. Additionally they are predictable in wet/dry conditions which is perhaps more important for learning.
Michelin Premiere A/S tires work very well in light, heavy and even blizzard snow conditions (as good as any conventional tire does on ice).
I was always a Michelin buyer because they were consistently quiet and long lasting offering excellent all around performance. 20,000 mikes ago I replaced the OEM tires on my Mk7 Jetta R-Line with the Turanza Quiettrack and am pleased without any regrets.
I'm running Nitto NT450s, 205/40/16 on an 8.5" wheel, but they're about bald. So I've ordered a set of Neo-Gens in the same size, they should be here before the weekend. Jason from 4everkustomz in Reamstown is mounting them.
My 2019 GLI came with the Hankook Kinergy GT. On paper it is considered a premium touring tire, but it is not very good. It is mostly dry where I live, but those things break loose at the slightest provocation - cornering, accelerating, etc. I don't know what they are like in the wet; from what I have read, they are not very good.
