I have a 2016 GTI. A little over 50,000 miles on it. No issues yet.
Best Water pump for Volkswagen Golf
I'm rocking 110k miles on the original pump here on a 2015.
My original water pump lasted 115,000 miles. I saw the fluid levels subside over the years, but never actual signs of a leak. Eventually, the leak became obvious enough to diagnose.
Just wanted to follow up. Took it the dealer. Later that day, they diagnosed the water pump failure, got my green light for repair under CPO warranty (with $50 deductible), and by the end of the same day the car was treated to a new thermostat/water pump. They recycled the coolant they drained and topped it off - a flush would have been extra. Service advisor said they pressure tested everything when I asked about the cap and everything passed. Let's hope this holds up!
I've had my mk6 for 5 years and driven it 50,000 miles (total 130,000) on the same water pump.
19 here and no issues, but all mk7s (gti/gli/R/s3/2.0a3s etc) are known for water pump and thermostat issues.
The water pump on my 2017 mk7 lasted nearly 100k miles before crapping out on me. :( Quite a pricey repair job, that was.
Got my 2017 Golf Wolfsburg Edition at the dealer right now for its 40K service and got a call that after they finished up they found a leaking water pump.
89 gti, 90 g60, 91 Jetta, 04 gti, 11 Touareg... All had water pump failures. I'm waiting for my mk7's pump to shit the bed any day now.
After 2 water pumps... I sold my MK6. Thankfully it was all under warranty but having to leave my car at the dealer every other month cost me just as much in time.
