OEM Toyota Oil filter

I was overjoyed when I saw that a toyota-branded oil filter was a touch over $5 vs $25 for the an oil filter for the 997.

Pros: cheap, readily available
Cons: expensive for 997

Hawk Performance Brake pads

my strategy when I started to run into a similar type of problem (brake pads disintegrating and eating my budget) was to go to endurance race pads - for me the Hawk ER1 pads seem to be working well.

Pros: working well

Ferodo Brake pads

Ferodo ds 1.11 on my cayman GTS 4.0 seem to last a long time. 1 weekend at COTA which is very brake abusive plus another 3-4 weekends at a less brake intensive track. I drive them to/from the track and swap to ferodo ds2500 for street duty.

Pros: last a long time, drive to/from track

MICHELIN Tires
DJ-Fire
  • Grip:
  • Ride comfort:
Rating 4.0

I have these on my Porsche for my normal driving. I’ve switched to other brands, but always come back to these. They wear well and give nice grip. They can ride a bit harsh around the city but, the sidewall is pretty small.

Pros: wear well, nice grip
Cons: ride a bit harsh
Vehicle: Porsche

Bosch Starter motor

But a lot of stuff is available as white label stuff, ie: the starter cost the same as any other car starter when I got the generic Bosch version.

Pros: generic version available
Vehicle: Porsche 911

  • Overheating:
Rating 5.0

I have had a car not bleed properly/ run hot (but not overheat) only when using the wrong thermostat. Replacing it with Wahler fixed the issue.

OEM Porsche Brake discs
ChrisZang
  • Braking:
Rating 3.0

The prices for parts (especially the brakes and oil and sparkplugs) and fluids are on the high side. Looks like they are only using Porsche parts while there are some excellent and much cheaper alternatives out there. Especially for brake rotors and pads.

Pros: cheaper alternatives available
Cons: parts prices are high
Vehicle: Porsche

MICHELIN Tires

I've burned through two sets of front ps4s, each set lasted two track days in a Porsche 718 Spyder. These were my first two track weekends ever, so I am a novice (likely overdriving the tires).

Cons: poor longevity, quick wear
Vehicle: Porsche
