OP, I had my water pump replaced by an independent shop recently. I got the parts from FCP euro for cheaper and used Audi parts instead cause it’s the same damn thing.
Took it to my trusted mechanic, and it was the water pump. These water pumps fail every 60,000 miles (or 100,000 km for your UOM). I got mine replaced at 35k miles first, and it failed at 94k, so it adds up.
I brought in my 2019 Audi A7 for an alternator recall. The car has 40k miles on it. While the car was in they found the water pump was leaking and said they replaced it under warranty along with the alternator.
My 2019 rs5 water pump went out at 72k miles
In the 11000 or so km i have driven the vehicle i have already had 1) Water pump replacement, 2) Front engine cover slow leak ( awaiting parts on backorder) & 2 inspections covered under warranty.
2006 Ford Explorer with the V6. Somehow went through four water pumps in one year. Made of the cheapest ticky tacky bullshit.
It was the water pump in my case, thankfully under warranty.
I recently had to have my water pump replaced. I had the vehicle diagnosed at the dealer and then had an indie mechanic do the work. Saved me a bunch of cash. Mine wasn’t overheating, but it had leaked coolant into the vacuum system which caused my turbo to not build enough boost.
I had this happen 200 miles from home. $7 a mile to have it towed home.
Just happened on my rs6 a few months ago. Dealership even had the part in stock because this is common enough. 2 days in the shop. Had to have the car towed. Engine temp would climb evey time I hit the gas.
