I have a 2011 it has 125K miles stage 2 tuned still running the original water pump....
OEM ones with version letters later than, IIRC, M at the end of the number and certainly all the later double letter ones have no issues.
Update: it was the water pump. Got a new Gates water pump (screws and gasket included). Installed it, no sealant or anything. Works flawlessly. Not a drop anywhere.
I used the gates kit from rock auto including the gates water pump… Car seems to be driving fine for the past few thousand miles since install.
We've had a 2009 GTI since new and now has 110k. In the last 16 years, we've replaced 2 water pumps, one dsg mech unit (under warranty), abs unit, pcv valve, rear main seal and in the past year, timing chain and guides as preventative maintenance.
If VW made the EA888 engine without a waterpump made of soft cheese.
I still bought one. But it would be good not to treat a waterpump as a regular service item.
My 16’ mk7 is showing some age, and it is in the shop now for water pump & thermostat (leaks unfortunately at 95k mi, original pump).
Did a gates kit on mine. Water pump is leaking after 60k miles.
I have a 2010 VW Tiguan, it has almost 102,000 miles on it... The garage said to fix what probably is the water pump would be very costly, the water pump is buried in the car, he said removing parts would add more costs with brittle hoses, etc.
Their water pump especially is garbage.
