Water pump AISIN or OEM Volkswagen

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

Great if taken care of!

I have a 2016 Golf 5MT, 160k mi now. It's been tuned for 120k and only major issue I've had is the original water pump went out last spring at approx. 140k.

Pros: great if taken care
Cons: water pump went out
Mileage: 257495 km

Aisin. The bearings in the idlers are better, the tensioner is better, and the water pump wont fail on you in 20k miles.

Pros: better bearings, tensioner
Cons: water pump fails
Mileage: 20000 km

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

i noticed that my coolant was a tiny bit low in early October. Well, when I took it in last Tuesday, November 24th, turns out that I needed a new water pump, and because there was a 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty, and 5 years had just passed, i had to pay ~$700 to have it fixed. so far so good after that, but I am going to write VWOA about it, because I was literally only about two weeks out of the 5 year warranty expiration.

Pros: fixed, working well
Cons: coolant low, expensive repair
Mileage: 78213 km

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

Rating 1.0

My 2016 Mk7 GTI is on its 4th water pump/thermostat housing. The first replacement happened at about 27K miles, the second failed at 63K miles, and the third failed at 72K miles. I fully expect this one to leak again soon. I find it ridiculous that VW/Audi don't fix a faulty part after all these years. The plastic thermostat housing is to blame. Instead of a metal housing which can handle the thermal stresses, they continue to use a plastic housing which will start leaking sooner or later.

Cons: fails repeatedly, plastic housing, leaks sooner or later
Mileage: 115872 km
