Water pump AISIN or OEM Audi

AISIN Water pump

I still prefer the Aisin water pumps over the new current Yamada made water pumps. Better fit and finish, fewer leaks/defects (lot of the Yamada pumps are bowed right out of the box), and Aisin breaks the edges whereas the Yamadas are almost cut your hands up levels of sharp

Pros: better fit and finish, fewer defects
Cons: sharp edges on Yamada

AISIN Water pump

WP, like everybody else said. It sounds identical to my water pump on the same engine when it went. If you DIY it’ll be about $200 (Aisin pump plus new coolant), shop will charge $1000+. It’s an aggravating DIY job. Whether you DIY or have a shop do it, use a OEM replacement made by Aisin. Labor costs are too much to have to re-do it in a few years. I’ve seen prices down to $100 on sale.

Pros: OEM replacement recommended, good price DIY
Cons: aggravating DIY job, expensive shop cost
Vehicle: Toyota Avalon

OEM Audi Water pump

Took it to my trusted mechanic, and it was the water pump. These water pumps fail every 60,000 miles (or 100,000 km for your UOM). I got mine replaced at 35k miles first, and it failed at 94k, so it adds up.

Pros: trusted mechanic
Cons: water pumps fail often
Vehicle: Audi A4
Mileage: 151287 km

AISIN Water pump

Mine does that after replacing all timing components with Aisin kit (replaced it myself). And it’s a known thing that Aisin water pumps make “warbling” sound. I’m assuming that’s what you’re hearing

Pros: known Aisin water pump sound
Cons: makes warbling sound

About a month ago, I kept getting the “Engine Coolant Too Hot — Pull over and let engine idle” error. It would literally come on for a split second then disappear. On one occasion, I noticed that the coolant was low so I topped it off. The error went away for about a week, then came back. This time, though, it remained on and the thermostat actually crept up. I dropped that thing off at the dealer so fast… four days later they tell me that the water pump has started to fail and that one of the solenoids had started leaking coolant.

Cons: water pump failure, coolant leak
Vehicle: Audi A7
Mileage: 41000 km

OEM Audi Water pump

Just turned 51K miles and threw an engine light for the first time. Took it straight to the dealer, low boost fault code due to coolant migration from water pump failure. At 51K miles I’m out of warranty with a $7,500 repair bill.

Cons: water pump failure, high repair cost
Vehicle: Audi Q8
Mileage: 51000 km
