Tires Toyo or Maxxis

Maxxis Tires

Maxxis Grifters. I’m 18 months in on them as a 1-2 time a week rider. No visible wear or pinch flats despite running low psi. They last forever and are grippy af.

Pros: grippy, long lasting
Cons: no cons

I ran a maxxcross on both front and rear - rear first, before I upgraded to a 16" + shinko 525. Its not a bad tire at all, and if you're looking to keep the weight down on the stock rim then I say its a good choice.

Pros: good choice, keeps weight down
Cons: not a bad tire

Toyo Tires

I’d love to try a bunch of different ones, but I’ve liked the Toyo GSI-6, had a nice sized tire to fit a 19” OZ wheel set I picked up

Pros: nice sized tire
Vehicle: Audi S5

Toyo RA-1 - I bought a set of these to run on wet days or when there is real threat of rain. On a dry day, especially with full tread, they don't live up to the other three tires up there. But on a cooler day, especially a slightly wet or wet one, these tires can move. I also find them the easiest of these four to recover from a slide

Pros: good on wet days
Cons: not good on dry days
Vehicle: Subaru BRZ

I run a Maxxis Aggressor on the back of my bike and I love it. A DHF up front has loads of grip but the Aggressor has similar side lugs (a little smaller but not much) so the vine still turns well. At the same time, it has smaller center lugs and having swapped a DHR for it, I can certainly tell it rolls better.

Pros: rolls better

My 2.3s were 55mm on some wide 1980s rims. I'll remount them on different rims soon and can measure then

Pros: 55mm on wide rims

Rating 3.0

I had two sets on two trucks, loved them for the first 10k miles and after that they pulled to the right all the time and were quite loud. Getting alignments done didn’t help it pulling to the right and as soon as I got different tires the pull went away.

Pros: loved them first 10k miles
Cons: pulled to the right, loud
Mileage: 10000 km

The Ardent sucks by most accounts. Read this article from [NSMB.com](https://nsmb.com/articles/ask-uncle-dave-talking-tires-maxxis/) where the Maxxis rep basically says the only reason Ardent's are even made anymore is because people recognize the name. Rekon 2.4 is my vote (not a particularly wide 2.4, more like a 2.35). Some have mentioned the Ardent Race, but the Rekon has way better cornering traction than an ardent race, and bigger center knobs than an ardent race for braking traction.

Pros: better cornering traction
Cons: Ardent sucks
